GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt’s Chinaza Ndee has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the sport’s All-ACC Academic Team announced Thursday.
A senior right side hitter from Houston, Texas, Ndee majors in natural sciences and psychology. She was a Senior CLASS Award finalist and a second team AVCA All-America honoree this past year. Ndee was also honored with the Blue-Gold Award, Pitt’s highest honor for a senior, and was named to the AVCA All-East Coast and All-ACC first teams, in addition to being recognized as ACC Player of the Week on March 30.
ACC Champion Louisville and Notre Dame lead the league with five players each on the academic team, followed by Florida State and Pitt with four each. NC State has three honorees on the team.
Nine members of the team were named All-Americans, 22 received All-Region honors and 30 earned All-ACC distinction.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
