Clemson’s Bornkamp, Florida State’s Madril Earn ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Clemson sophomore midfielder Megan Bornkamp has been named ACC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Florida State graduate defender Emily Madril has been tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Bornkamp helped lead the Tigers to a perfect 2-0 week, headlined by a 2-1 win against rival South Carolina. Against the 12th-ranked Gamecocks last Thursday, she contributed to both Clemson scores, first with an assist on the first goal and later scoring the game-winning goal.

A native of Mooresville, North Carolina, Bornkamp tallied a career-high three assists in Sunday’s 4-0 victory at Gardner-Webb. She finished the week with six points on four assists with a goal.

Madril anchored a Seminole backline that only allowed one goal in two games against No. 10 Auburn and FGCU, both on the road. She helped Florida State limit Florida Gulf Coast to just two shots in the game, while FSU had possession of the ball for 81% of the game. Madril also scored the game's second goal in the 4-0 win against the Eagles.

In the 2-1 win at No. 10 Auburn on Sunday, the Navarre, Florida, native helped the Seminoles’ defense hold the Tigers to just three shots on goal. Madril assisted on the game's opening goal with a great pass that allowed FSU to score just 29 seconds into the game.

Conference play begins this week for ACC women’s soccer, as Clemson hosts Pitt at 8 p.m. Thursday night on ACC Network to kick off the league slate.
