GREENSBORO, N.C. - Rivalry matches take center stage in ACC men's soccer conference play this weekend, with Virginia at No. 17 Virginia Tech on Friday and No. 12 Duke at No. 16 North Carolina on Sunday. Both matches air at 7 p.m. on ACC Network.
ACC teams went 6-1-1 in non-conference action to start the week, highlighted by Pitt's 1-0 triumph at Penn State, the Panthers' first win in State College since 1966.
Five ACC teams are ranked in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll – more than any other league. The ACC holds three of the top six spots in the poll. Clemson is ranked No. 2 nationally and is followed by Pitt (5), Duke (12), North Carolina (16) and Virginia Tech (17).

Noting ACC Men's Soccer
• This marks the second of eight weekends of conference action.
• Clemson’s Callum Johnson and Pitt’s Jasper Loeffelsend are tied for the national lead in assists this season with five apiece.
• The ACC’s lone remaining unbeaten team at 6-0-0, Clemson is tied for the national lead in goals per game (3.67) and also ranks third nationally in goals against average (0.167).
• Clemson's +21 goal differential (22-1) is tops nationally and seven more than any other team. Pitt is No. 3 nationally in goal differential (+11), while UNC is No. 4 (+10) and Syracuse No. 9 (+9).
• Syracuse sophomore forward Deandre Kerr was selected as the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, while Clemson senior goalkeeper George Marks was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks.
• Marks also was selected to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. Kerr and Clemson's Oskar Ågren were named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
• Six ACC head coaches rank among the top 35 in NCAA Division I in winning percentage by active head coaches: UNC's Carlos Somoano (4th, .728), Virginia's George Gelnovatch (12th, .688), Wake Forest's Bobby Muuss (16th, .674), Clemson's Mike Noonan (27th, .640), Pitt's Jay Vidovich (27th, .640) and NC State's George Kiefer (35th, .606).
• The 2021 ACC Men's Soccer Championship returns to a 12-team format this season, with the first three rounds at campus sites before the championship game on Nov. 14 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
• 21 of the 30 members of the 2020 All-ACC Team return this season, including four first-teamers: 2020 ACC Offensive Player of the Year Valentin Noel of Pitt, 2020 ACC Defensive Player of the Year Jasper Löeffelsend of Pitt, senior forward Jack Lynn of Notre Dame and graduate goalkeeper Nico Campuzano of Pitt.
• All 11 members of the 2020 All-Freshman Team returned to school this season.
• Pitt was selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2021 ACC Men’s Soccer Championship following a vote of the league’s head coaches.
• The Panthers also were the coaches' favorite to claim the Coastal Division, while Clemson was the Atlantic Division favorite.
