GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt outside hitter Kayla Lund and Syracuse middle blocker Marina Markova have been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, while Georgia Tech’s Bianca Bertolino has been named the Freshman of the Week.
 
Lund, the Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, led No. 7 Pitt to wins over No. 9 Baylor (3-2) and Tennessee (3-2) on the weekend. The graduate student from Pasadena, California, posted a season-high 21 kills, including the match winner, in a five-set win over ninth-ranked Bears and hit a season-best .432. Lund recorded her third double-double in five matches played with 19 kills and 11 digs on the road at Tennessee. She recorded 4.00 kills per set, hit .337 for the weekend and totaled a team-best 4.10 points per set.
 
The Yale Invitational MVP, Markova recorded 48 kills, 21 digs, six blocks and four service aces across Syracuse’s three shutout wins on the weekend. Against Yale, the junior from St. Petersburg, Russia, recorded a career-best 21 kills. She posted a double-double in the win against Hartford with a 14-kill, 10-dig effort. Markova led the Orange in kills in two of the three matches and averaged 6.28 points and 5.33 kills per set.
 
An outside hitter from San Guillermo-Santa Fe, Argentina, Bertolino put forth a strong weekend at the Long Beach State Tournament. The rookie tallied the second-most kills on the squad with 30, adding 19 digs, an ace and a block. Bertolino was vital in the Yellow Jackets’ 3-1 road win over Long Beach State as she led the team with 21 kills, a career high, while hitting .541 with only one error. She also pitched in defensively with 12 digs and a block against the host team. On the weekend, Bertolino averaged 4.00 points, 3.75 kills and 2.38 digs per set.
