Notre Dame Sweeps ACC WBB Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Notre Dame freshman guard Olivia Miles has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and Fighting Irish teammate Sonia Citron is the ACC Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season.

ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.

Miles averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 assists and 7.0 rebounds to lead Notre Dame to a 2-0 week. She narrowly missed tallying her second triple-double of the season in last Thursday’s 83-62 victory against Syracuse. Miles scored 17 points with 10 rebounds and nine assists to chart her seventh double-double of the season, which is tied for the third most in the conference.

The Phillipsburg, New Jersey, native led all players with a career-high 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting with six assists and four rebounds in a 74-61 victory over Boston College on Sunday. Miles became the fourth Irish player to record 30 points and five assists in a single game and just the fifth Notre Dame freshman to score at least 30 points in a game.

Miles currently leads the nation with 153 assists and is second in assists per game with 7.7.

Citron notched double figure scoring in both games last week with 13 points in the win over the Orange and 14 points in the victory against the Eagles. She pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds against Syracuse and scored 10 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter. Citron logged her fifth straight double-digit scoring game against BC with 14 points and four rebounds.

Hailing from Eastchester, New York, Citron averaged 13.5 points and 8.0 rebounds to help Notre Dame improve to 16-4 overall and 7-2 in ACC play. For the week, she shot 62.5% (10-of-16) from the floor, 66.7% (2-of-3) from behind the arc, 71.4% (5-of-7) from the free-throw line with 16 rebounds.

Citron is second among the conference’s true freshmen in scoring with 11.4 points per game and leads the group in rebounding at 6.25 per game.

ACC women’s basketball action returns Tuesday evening with three games on the schedule, as No. 3 NC State travels to No. 20 Notre Dame, No. 4 Louisville visits Miami and Duke hosts No. 12 Georgia Tech. All three games tip off at 7 p.m. and will air live on ACC Network Extra.
