GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State 157-pound redshirt freshman Ed Scott and Duke 149-pound senior Josh Finesilver have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Wrestlers of the Week for January 4.
Scott defeated a pair of top-15 opponents while posting a 3-0 record at the Collegiate Wrestling Duals, while Finesilver became just the second Blue Devil ever to bring home a gold medal from the Southern Scuffle.
Scott’s run at the Collegiate Duals included a technical fall versus Binghamton’s Tyler Martin, a 3-2 decision over Missouri’s 15th-ranked Jarret Jacques and a first-period pin (1:10) of Iowa’s eighth-ranked Kaleb Young.
In addition to earning a No. 11 weight-class ranking from InterMat and a No. 15 ranking from FloWrestling, Scott (13-0 this season) helped the No. 5 Wolfpack to a 35-7 rout of Binghamton, a 19-12 win over No. 10 Missouri, and a near-upset of top-ranked Iowa. NC State battled the Hawkeyes to the wire before coming out on the short end of a 19-15 decision.
The seventh-ranked Finesilver (21-1) helped Duke to a ninth-place finish in the 29-team Southern Scuffle field with five victories that included a first-period win by fall and a win by major decision. The Greenwood Village, Colorado, native earned his highest ranked win of the season by edging No. 22 Josh Edmond of Missouri in the final.
Finesilver won his second title of the year (also The Battle at The Citadel) and owns 72 victories in his collegiate career. Finesilver’s next individual victory would match his career high of 22 wins in a single season.
