Matson, Todd Earn ACC Weekly Field Hockey Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior forward Erin Matson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, while Wake Forest freshman goalkeeper Ellie Todd was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

It marks the third consecutive week – and fourth time this season overall – that Matson has earned an ACC weekly honor. Todd was recognized for the second straight week.

UNC’s Matson scored three times over the course of two weekend road wins against ranked teams. In a 4-3 ACC victory at No. 19 Boston College on Friday, the Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, native scored to increase the top-ranked Tar Heels’ lead to two, 4-2, late in the game, before the Eagles hit a penalty stroke in the final minutes to again cut the margin to one.

In a 3-0 win at No. 12 UConn on Sunday, Matson scored UNC's first two goals and, in the process, tied the ACC's all-time scoring record with 306 career points. She leads the ACC this season in goals, goals per game, points and points per game (16 goals and three assists through 11 games). She has five multi-goal games this season and has scored at least one goal in all but two games.

Todd earned three wins in goal during No. 14 Wake Forest's perfect week against Davidson, No. 7 Louisville and VCU, making seven saves while allowing just two goals in 180 minutes of action.

Todd blanked the No. 7 Cardinals in Friday’s ACC match for her third shutout of the season, tallying five saves. Against VCU, the Boston native notched a pair of saves to earn her 10th win of the season.

Todd and the Deacons have now given allowed less than two goals in each of the last seven matches, dating back to its 1-0 shutout victory against Ohio State in Columbus on Sept. 18. Overall, the Deacs have held opponents to two goals or less in 12 matches this season. Additionally, the Demon Deacons have won 10 of their last 11 matches and four matches in the last seven days.
