GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke sophomore forward Shakur Mohammed was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Syracuse senior defender Buster Sjoberg earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Mohammed earned the distinction for the second time this season (Sept. 13).
Mohammed recorded his second brace of 2022 to help No. 3 Duke to a 2-0 victory against Notre Dame on Friday. The native of Kumasi, Ghana, opened the scoring with a header in the 25th minute and put the contest out of reach in the 82nd minute with a sliding shot that found the corner of the goal. Mohammed now has seven goals in 2022 and leads the ACC in game-winning goals with four.
A native of Uppsala, Sweden, Sjoberg helped guide the Orange to a pair of wins last week over Loyola and No. 11 Louisville. The center back played the full 90 minutes in the key win at Louisville, which propelled the Orange to the top of the ACC standings, and was key in the final 13 minutes when Syracuse was issued a red card and forced to play a man down.
Tuesday features a busy slate of nine non-conference matches, and ACC Network will broadcast the Hofstra at Virginia match at 7 p.m. The penultimate weekend of league play begins Friday with four matches. ACCN has a Friday doubleheader with North Carolina at Boston College at 6 p.m. and Pitt at No. 3 Duke at 8 p.m. In other Friday league matches, Virginia Tech plays at Notre Dame and No. 18 Clemson visits No. 11 Louisville, with both airing at 7 p.m. on ACCNX.
Two conference games are set for Saturday, with No. 10 Wake Forest at Virginia and No. 5 Syracuse at NC State at 7 p.m. on ACCNX.
