GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia Tech senior center Elizabeth Kitley has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Florida State guard Ta’Niya Latson earned Freshman of the Week honors. Kitley was named for the first time this season, while Latson was honored for the fifth consecutive time.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Kitley averaged 20.0 points and 11.0 rebounds and shot 55.0 percent (15-for-27) from the field in home victories over Boston College and UNC Asheville, as the Hokies improved to a perfect 10-0 on the season. The native of Summerfield, North Carolina, scored a game-high 22 points with 12 rebounds to pace Virginia Tech to a 73-58 conference win over BC on Wednesday. Against the Bulldogs, Kitley registered her eighth double-double of the year with 18 points and 10 boards, as the Hokies cruised to an 86-48 triumph on Sunday.
Latson matched a career high with 34 points on 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) shooting in Florida State’s 108-51 victory over Texas Southern on Sunday. The Miami, Florida, native became the first Seminole to record three 30-point games in a season since Natasha Howard had five during the 2013-14 campaign. The freshman also added five rebounds and a pair of assists.
