GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame sophomore guard Olivia Miles has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Florida State guard Ta’Niya Latson earned Freshman of the Week honors. Miles was named for the second time this season, while Latson was honored for the sixth time.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Miles led the No. 5 Fighting Irish to a 63-52 come-from-behind victory over No. 6 Virginia Tech Sunday afternoon in Blacksburg, Virginia. The guard closed the day with 16 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and five steals, as 10 of her 16 points came in the fourth quarter to pace the comeback. She continued her stretch of 10 straight games in double figures and recorded at least five steals for the second time this season.
Latson averaged 24.5 points and 5.5 steals and shot 43.2 percent (16-for-37) from the field, as Florida State defeated Presbyterian College on Thursday and suffered a narrow setback to No. 9 UConn last Sunday. In a win over the Blue Hose, the Miami, Florida, native scored a game-high 25 points on 9-of-18 from the field with eight steals in a 98-37 victory. Against the Huskies, Latson dropped in a team-high 24 points and finished 9-for-10 from the free throw line.
