GREENSBORO, N.C. (the ACC.com) – Virginia Tech freshman Caleb Henson has earned his second Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week honor of the season after his major decision win in a battle of top-15 competitors keyed the No. 8 Hokies to a road victory at Stanford.
Facing Stanford 2021 All-American and currently No. 13-ranked Jaden Abas at 149 pounds, the No. 12 Henson put together a convincing 11-1 win. The Cartersville, Georgia native was offensive early with a takedown right into a set of back points to go up 6-0. Henson added another set of back points and a second-period rideout to lead 10-0 at the end of the period. He finished with an escape, stall point and riding point in the third period for the final margin, and Virginia Tech went on to a 22-12 team win.
Henson (10-2) also added a tech fall over Ben Nohr of Lindenwood, 19-3, in a second match hosted by Stanford on Sunday to go undefeated on the day.
The Hokies (3-1) return to action on January 1-2 for the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
