GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Wake Forest junior forward Jake LaRavia has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while NC State guard Terquavion Smith earned Freshman of the Week honors.
LaRavia notched Player of the Week honors for the second time this season (Jan. 24), while Smith was named Freshman of the Week for the third time this season (Dec. 6, Dec. 13).
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
LaRavia averaged 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in Wake Forest’s games against the top two teams in the league standings – Duke and Notre Dame – last week. The Indianapolis native captured his fourth double-double of the season in a 76-74 loss at No. 9 Duke on Tuesday with 19 points and 10 rebounds. He tallied 20 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals Saturday in a 79-74 win against Notre Dame. LaRavia is now just 24 points from eclipsing 1,000 career points. With his nine rebounds against the Fighting Irish, LaRavia surpassed the 500 career rebound mark with 507 career boards.
Smith put up 26 points, nine rebounds and three assists Tuesday in a 76-61 victory at Georgia Tech. A native of Greenville, North Carolina, he shot 9-of-14 from the field, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range, in the win. Smith scored 18 of his 26 points in the first half as the Wolfpack opened up a 26-point halftime lead. He also grabbed nine rebounds, which is his season high against an ACC opponent.
