DURHAM, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame dominated the team competitions Sunday at the 2022 ACC Fencing Championships, as the Fighting Irish brough home both the men’s and women’s team titles at Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.
Both Notre Dame programs won their sixth ACC team championships in the last eight years.
ACC men’s foil champion Andrew Machovec of Notre Dame was named the ACC Championships’ Men’s Most Valuable Fencer, while ACC women’s epee champion Amanda Pirkowski of Notre Dame was selected the ACC Championships’ Women’s Most Valuable Fencer.
ACC Network will carry a tape-delayed broadcast of the individual finals at 8 p.m. Sunday. The men’s team finals will re-air at 1 p.m. Monday, while the women’s team finals will re-air at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
The Fighting Irish men swept their duals against Boston College (16-11), North Carolina (17-10) and Duke (17-10). BC took second in the men’s team race with a 2-1 record, while Duke (1-2) was third and UNC (0-3) fourth.
The women decisively won all three of their duals, downing North Carolina (19-8), Boston College (22-5) and Duke (18-9). Duke (2-1) notched second place in the women’s team standings, while UNC (1-2) and BC (0-3) were third and fourth, respectively.
Notre Dame will play host to the 2022 NCAA Fencing National Championships from March 24-27, 2022, at the Castellan Family Fencing Center. Qualifying teams will be unveiled on March 15.
