ACC Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week - Feb. 8

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Six student-athletes who rank among the nation’s top 10 – including four school-record-setters – comprise the list of Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field weekly honorees for Feb. 8.
 
ACC MEN’S CO-TRACK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Antonio Lopez Segura, Virginia Tech, Sr., Barcelona, Spain
Finishing as the top collegian in a stacked Camel City Elite 3,000 meters field, Lopez Segura delivered an unconverted time of 7:49.03 on the flat 200m track at JDL Fast Track, which would rank as No. 1 in the ACC even before conversion. Lopez Segura’s converted time of 7:43.64 ranks as the fastest in the ACC, second fastest in the NCAA, and breaks the Virginia Tech school record that had stood for nine years.
 
ACC MEN’S CO-TRACK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Ayman Zahafi, Miami, Sr., Casablanca, Morocco
Zahafi posted a winning time of 1:47.80 in the men’s 800 meters at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame to set a Miami school record. The time currently ranks third in the nation and leads the ACC. Zahafi’s time bested the previous program record of 1:47.99 set by Tim Harris in 2006.
 
ACC WOMEN’S TRACK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Lindsey Butler, Virginia Tech, Jr., Corning, N.Y.
Butler finished as the top collegian in an 800 meters field of top NCAA and professional athletes at JDL Fast Track’s Camel City Invitational with her flat track time of 2:05.03, fastest in the ACC this year. After the qualifying conversion, Butler’s time registered 2:03.61, placing her second in the NCAA so far this season.
 
ACC MEN’S CO-FIELD PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Isaiah Holmes, Miami, Gr., Roseville, Calif.
Holmes placed among the nation’s top seven in two events at the Meyo Invitational, setting a school record in the high jump and tying the school record in the long jump. Holmes’ mark of 2.19 meters (7’2.25”) in the high jump led a field of 16 jumpers and bettered the previous UM record of 2.14 he set just two weeks earlier at the Carolina Challenge. He then registered a long jump distance of 7.90 meters (25’11”) that placed second among 23 competitors and ranks sixth nationally.
 
ACC MEN’S CO-FIELD PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Owayne Owens, Virginia, Sr., Montego Bay, Jamaica
Owens bested his previous personal best of 16.06 meters in the triple jump that he set in the first week of the season with a new mark of 16.43 meters (53’11”) at the Doc Hale Elite Meet hosted by Virginia Tech.  Owens climbed from No. 5 to No. 2 in this week’s Division I rankings.
 
ACC WOMEN’S FIELD PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Rachel Baxter, Virginia Tech, Gr., Orange, Calif.
Baxter delivered a statement performance in the women’s pole vault at the Doc Hale Elite Meet, clearing six bars in a row on her first attempt for a final mark of 4.48 meters (14’ 8.25”). Baxter, who held the ACC’s highest mark so far this season heading into the weekend, now ranks No. 2 in the NCAA this year following her season-best mark.
