GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina graduate attackman Chris Gray was selected as the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, while Virginia senior face-off specialist Petey LaSalla earned Defensive Player of the Week in the latest ACC weekly men’s lacrosse honors.
Gray led UNC with nine goals and five assists in wins over Brown and No. 13 Johns Hopkins. His seven goals against Hopkins marked the second-most in a game for his career. It is the fourth time the Wading River, New York, native has scored six or more goals in a game at UNC. His single-game high was against Johns Hopkins in 2020 when he scored eight. He has scored multiple goals in six straight games dating back to last season.
A native of Islip, New York, LaSalla went 19-for-28 (.679) at the faceoff X, picked up five ground balls and scored a goal in the No. 2 Cavaliers’ 20-11 win over No. 9 Syracuse. LaSalla’s 19 faceoff wins pushed him over the edge to become UVa’s all-time career leader in faceoff victories. LaSalla now has 623 career faceoff wins. His 19 faceoff wins are also his season high.
ACC teams hold five of the top 15 spots in the USILA/Dynamic 2022 Men’s Coaches poll this week: Virginia (2), Notre Dame (7), North Carolina (8), Duke (10) and Syracuse (14).
