BC’s North Headlines 2022 All-ACC Academic Women’s Lacrosse Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Boston College graduate attacker Charlotte North was selected the Atlantic Coast Conference’s 2022 Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year and highlights the All-ACC Academic Women’s Lacrosse Team, announced Tuesday by the league office.

A native of Dallas, Texas, North was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the fourth time. She repeated as the women’s recipient of the Tewaaraton Award, which is given annually to the top lacrosse player in the nation. She became just the seventh player – male or female – to win the award twice and is the 10th women’s Tewaaraton honoree from an ACC program.

North graduated from Boston College with a degree in sociology in 2021 and currently is working toward a master’s degree in sport administration. She finished second in the nation with 92 goals in 2022, piling up a career-high 115 points and 139 draw controls, which ranked fifth and fourth in the nation, respectively. A first-team All-ACC honoree for the second straight season and a four-time All-ACC recipient, she also was named the IWLCA’s Player and Attacker of the Year this season while leading the Eagles to the national championship game.

North finished her college career as the NCAA’s all-time leader with 358 goals and was selected as a first-team All-American this season by the IWLCA, Inside Lacrosse/ILWomen and USA Lacrosse Magazine.

North is the fourth straight ACC Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year from Boston College. Sam Apuzzo earned the distinction in 2018 and 2019.

All nine of the league’s women’s lacrosse programs are represented on the All-ACC Academic Team, which includes 25 student-athletes that earned Inside Lacrosse All-America honors this season. All four of the ACC’s season award honorees were represented on the team – UNC’s Jamie Ortega (Attacker of the Year), UNC’s Ally Mastroianni (Midfielder of the Year), UNC’s Emma Trenchard (Defender of the Year) and Virginia’s Rachel Clark (Freshman of the Year). Thirty members of the All-ACC Academic Team also were named to the 2022 All-ACC Team.

Boston College, Duke and Notre Dame led all schools with eight honorees on the All-ACC Academic Team.

Five student-athletes earned the award for the fourth time in their careers: North, Louisville’s Caroline Blalock, North Carolina’s Emma Trenchard, Notre Dame’s Maddie Howe and Pitt’s Paige Petty.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
