UNC’s Maher Leads 2022 All-ACC Academic Men’s Lacrosse Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior short-stick defensive midfielder Connor Maher has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s 2022 Men’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year and leads the All-ACC Academic Men’s Lacrosse Team, announced Tuesday by the league office.

Each of the league’s five men’s lacrosse programs are represented on the All-ACC Academic Team, which includes 17 student-athletes that earned Inside Lacrosse All-America honors this season. Seventeen members of the All-ACC Academic Team were also named to the 2022 All-ACC Team.

Duke led all schools with nine honorees, while Notre Dame and Virginia each had seven.

A native of Timonium, Maryland, Maher was named a Second-Team All-American by Inside Lacrosse, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and USA Lacrosse Magazine and was voted to the All-ACC Team for the second straight season. He also was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. A 2022 team captain, Maher saw action in all 14 games with 43 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. On the offensive side, he scored one goal and added one assist. His 43 ground balls were second best on the team. Maher is majoring in business administration.

He is the second straight ACC Men’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year honoree from UNC (Chris Gray, 2021).

Three student-athletes earned the award for the fourth time in their careers: Duke’s Joe Robertson, Syracuse’s Brett Kennedy and Virginia’s Matt Moore.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
