GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt senior forward Amanda West was selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week and North Carolina senior defender Tori Hansen was chosen the Defensive Player of the Week in the first set of ACC Women’s Soccer Players of the Week for the 2022 season.
West guided Pitt to a pair of victories to open the 2022 season as the Panthers claimed the Rumble in the Rockies crown by winning both of their games in Missoula, Montana. West delivered a pair of second-half game-winning goals, running her program record for career goals scored to 35. She accounted for the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Gonzaga in the season opener on Thursday, scoring on a rebound opportunity in the 57th minute. On Sunday West once again broke a scoreless draw in the second half, finding the back of the net in the 56th minute to help lift the Panthers to a 2-0 triumph over host Montana.
Hansen played all 180 minutes in two games last week. She anchored a defense that posted back-to-back shutouts to start the season, including a 2-0 win over UNCW with preseason All-ACC defender Maycee Bell unavailable. She made several key tackles in UNC’s 3-0 triumph over No. 11 Tennessee in the season opener on Thursday, while also scoring a goal in the second half against the Lady Vols, as she headed the ball into the net off a cross from Sam Meza to put UNC up 2-0. It was her second career goal and first since May 5, 2021, against Washington.
ACC women’s soccer teams got off to a tremendous start last week, combining to go 22-1-4 while outscoring their opponents, 62-17. Non-conference play continues Thursday, with all 14 league programs competing.
