GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse senior forward Levonte Johnson was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while his teammate, redshirt senior goalkeeper Russell Shealy, was selected the league’s Defensive Player of the Week.
Johnson scored the game-winning goals in each of Syracuse’s matches last week. A native of Brampton, Ontario, Johnson recorded the go-ahead score on Friday in a 2-1 road victory against top-ranked Clemson as the Orange handed the Tigers their first loss of the season. Johnson also assisted on Jeorgio Kocevski’s first-half equalizer against Clemson. On Tuesday he scored the game-winner against Niagara in a 1-0 victory.
A native of Cartersville, Georgia, Shealey recorded tied a career high with six saves in the Friday triumph at Clemson. One of the saves occurred in the last 10 minutes to secure the road upset. He also recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season on Tuesday against Niagara, making a pair of saves.
Non-conference action continues Tuesday, with seven teams taking the pitch. The third weekend of conference play begins Friday, including a matchup between No. 10 Pitt and Louisville at 8 p.m. that airs on ACC Network.
