2023 ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship Headed to Charlotte

Elkridge, MD – The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Charlotte, North Carolina, have a robust history of partnering on league events. Over the years the Queen City has hosted the ACC Football Championship Game, ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament, ACC Baseball Championship and numerous league media events. Beginning April 2023, the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship will be played in Charlotte at American Legion Memorial Stadium.
 
Corrigan Sports and Queen City Soccer Club LLC have partnered to bring the fast-growing ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship to Charlotte in the spring of 2023. The seven-game event will be played at newly redesigned and built American Legion Memorial Stadium with CSE and QCSE committed to making the Championship the “can’t miss” event of the college season. The quarterfinals will be held on Wednesday, April 26, with the semifinals on Friday, April 28, and the championship game on Sunday, April 30.
 
“Our ACC Women’s Lacrosse programs are national leaders year in and year out and we look forward to showcasing our amazing teams during the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship in Charlotte and American Legion Memorial Stadium this spring,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “We appreciate Queen City Soccer Club and Corrigan Sports for creating what will be a first-class event for our student-athletes, coaches and programs.”
 
CEO of Queen City Soccer Club LLC, Jim McPhilliamy has been a leading pioneer within the Charlotte lacrosse community for over 10 years. His organization brought Professional Men’s Lacrosse to Charlotte in 2012 with the addition of the “Charlotte Hounds” and last year partnered with the Premier Lacrosse League to host the world’s best professional league at the stadium.

This venue and this city are the perfect fit for hosting this fantastic showcase of women’s lacrosse talent,” stated McPhilliamy. “We’re pumped to partner with the ACC and Corrigan Sports to produce an unforgettable experience for the fans.”
 
Lee Corrigan, President of Corrigan Sports, a sports marketing and event management organization has operated a number of successful sporting events including All-America Lacrosse.
 
“We’re excited to join forces with Jim (McPhilliamy) and his team to bring the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship to American Legion Memorial Stadium. Our hope is to create a true sense of togetherness for lacrosse enthusiasts in the South—we intend on implementing some extremely unique components to the event and are hopeful the lacrosse community will jump to be a part of this exciting celebration of women’s lacrosse!”
 
ACC teams own 17 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship, including Boston College in 2021 and North Carolina in 2022. The Tar Heels topped Boston College in the 2022 NCAA title game, 12-11. The ACC has had a team in the national championship game in 12 of the last 13 seasons. Six ACC programs were ranked among the top 20 in the final 2022 IL Women/IWLCA poll, the most of any team nationally. In the 2023 Preseason USA Lacrosse Magazine, six ACC teams are ranked – most of any conference – including three of the top six: North Carolina at No. 1, Boston College at No. 3 and Syracuse at No. 6.
