CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State senior midfielder/forward Onyi Echegini was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Clemson senior defender Makenna Morris was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 9-15.
Echegini recorded her second brace of the season in Florida State’s 4-1 victory over No. 11 Notre Dame on Thursday. The London, England, native scored both of her goals in the first half to give the Seminoles a 2-1 lead heading into the break, as her second tally proved to be the eventual game winner. With her two goals on Thursday, she moved into a tie for second in the ACC with eight total goals on the season.
Morris led the Clemson backline to its 10th shutout this season and scored the match’s only goal in the Tigers’ 1-0 win at No. 23 Duke on Friday. On the offensive end, the Germantown, Maryland, native converted from the penalty spot in the 29th minute for her seventh goal of the season. On the defensive side, Morris and the Clemson defense held the Blue Devils to just two shots on goal and without a corner kick for the contest.
Another busy week inside ACC Women’s Soccer begins on Thursday with a full slate of matches, headlined by a pair of top-25 matchups when Pitt visits Florida State (7 p.m., ACC Network Extra) and Notre Dame travels to North Carolina (8 p.m., ACC Network). ACCN will also broadcast Boston College at Wake Forest at 6 p.m.
Sunday features another seven-match slate, as ACCN will broadcast a top-25 showdown when Pitt takes on Clemson at 2 p.m.
