ACC Announces Women’s Soccer Player of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State senior midfielder/forward Onyi Echegini and Clemson junior forward Renee Lyles were named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Clemson senior defender earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Echegini tallied three goals in a pair of ACC victories last week, as Florida State remained unbeaten in conference play. The London, England, native opened the week with a 76th-minute goal, which proved to be the game winner in FSU’s 3-2 victory over No. 18 Pitt on Thursday. On Sunday, Echegini scored twice in the second half to help the Seminoles pull away in a 4-0 win at Duke. With the two goals, Echegini now ties for the conference lead with seven goals in ACC matches.

Lyles tallied two goals and an assist in Clemson’s two ACC victories last week. On Thursday, the Atlanta, Georgia, native recorded a second-half brace to pace the Tigers to a 3-0 home victory over Louisville. She then assisted on the only goal of the match in Clemson’s 1-0 home win over No. 18 Pitt on Sunday.

Morris was a staple along the Clemson backline, as the Tigers posted back-to-back clean sheets last week and extended their shutout streak to four straight matches. On Thursday, Morris and Clemson limited Louisville to just two shots for the match with one going on frame. In Sunday’s win, the Tigers shutout Pitt, as the Panthers were blanked for the first time during a conference match this season.

ACC Women’s soccer enters its final week of the regular season, as the 2023 Ally ACC Women’s Soccer Tournament bracket will be announced at the conclusion of Thursday’s matches. The postseason gets underway on Sunday with first-round matches on campus sites. ACC Network will broadcast both first-round matchups beginning at 6 p.m.
