CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame graduate midfielder Kiki Van Zanten was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Wake Forest junior defender Laurel Ansbrow was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 25-Oct. 1.
Van Zanten had a hand in all three goals during the Fighting Irish’s 3-0 home victory on Saturday, as the Buffalo Grove, Illinois, native recorded a brace and an assist for a season-best five-point evening. After she assisted on Notre Dame’s first goal in the third minute of action, the graduate student scored twice in the second half to put the match out of reach. She closed the match with eight shots, tying her for the third-most in a conference match this season.
Ansbrow anchored a backline that claimed their second straight shutout in a 2-0 road win at Virginia Tech on Friday. The Cary, North Carolina, native helped hold the Hokies to just three shots, despite VT entering the match averaging 12.6 shots per match this season.
ACC Network will broadcast a pair of doubleheaders this week, beginning on Thursday evening, as nationally ranked Wake Forest heads to Syracuse at 6 p.m., while NC State travels to Virginia Tech for an 8 p.m. kickoff. On Sunday, Virginia will take on NC State at 2 p.m., while in-state rivals meet when North Carolina visits Duke at 6 p.m.
