CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke senior midfielder Nick Pariano claimed Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Virginia junior goalkeeper Joey Batrouni was selected ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Pariano helped Duke to two wins, including an ACC victory over No. 7 Syracuse on Friday night, while playing all 180 minutes. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native converted from the spot against College of Charleston and then logged the first brace of his career in Duke's win against the Orange, a multi-goal effort that included a second-half free kick that eventually proved to be the game-winning goal. Pariano now has four goals in 2023 to go along with four assists, good for a total 12 points.
Making his first two starts in six games stepping in for the injured Holden Brown, Batrouni recorded his first clean sheet as a Cavalier in a 1-0 win against ETSU and followed it up with another shutout performance against No. 8 Louisville in a 3-0 UVa victory. The San Antonio, Texas, native amassed a total of eight saves over the course of two matches.
Week 5 of conference play features six matches on Friday and Saturday night, including Syracuse at North Carolina, which airs Friday at 7:30 p.m. on ACC Network.
