ACC Announces Weekly Women’s Basketball Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com)NC State junior guard Saniya Rivers has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo earned Rookie of the Week honors.
 
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
 
Rivers averaged 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists last week, headlined by a career-high 33 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the Wolfpack’s home victory over No. 2 UConn on Sunday. Against the Huskies, the Wilmington, North Carolina, native shot 58 percent (11-for-19) from the field and became the first NC State player in the Wes Moore era to post 30 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Rivers also recorded 11 points in 18 minutes in the season-opening win over Charlotte last Tuesday.
 
Hidalgo averaged 28.5 points, 4.5 assists and 7.5 steals, as Notre Dame split its pair of nonconference matchups last week. The Haddonfield, New Jersey, native opened her collegiate career with a game-high 31 points against No. 6 South Carolina in the first-ever college basketball game played in Paris, France. In Sunday’s road win at NJIT, Hidalgo matched a game high with 26 points and grabbed 12 steals, the most by a Division I player since February 6, 2021.
 
ACC teams concluded the week with a perfect 8-0 record on Sunday, as the conference is 27-5 overall with a pair of ranked victories. In addition to NC State’s win over UConn, Florida State knocked off No. 11 Tennessee on Thursday evening.
 
Six teams are ranked in the latest Associated Press (AP) Poll, tying for the most among all conferences. Virginia Tech continues to lead the way at No. 9, while Florida State moved up to No. 12 and NC State debuts at No. 14. Notre Dame is No. 16, North Carolina is No. 17 and Louisville is No. 19. Duke and Miami are currently receiving votes.
