CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State’s Jakob Camacho was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week following his 2-0 performance over the second week of the season, Nov. 6-12.
Wrestling at 125 pounds for the No. 3 Wolfpack, Camacho helped lead his team to a 2-0 day at the WrangleMania event, as NC State recorded dominant dual match wins over Bloomsburg (45-4) and No. 25 Purdue (37-3) to move to 4-0 on the season.
Nationally ranked Camacho started his day with a 19-4 technical fall win over Bronson Garber of Bloomsburg, in which he controlled the match from start to finish to put the Wolfpack on track en route to the 45-4 win over the Huskies.
In the heavily anticipated match versus Purdue's No. 3 Matt Ramos to start off NC State’s second match of the day, Camacho did not disappoint as he came from behind to force a 4-4 tie heading into the third period. In the third period, Camacho got an escape to take the lead for the first time and jumped ahead on a takedown with 45 seconds left in the match to win 8-5.
With his 2-0 week and win over Ramos, Camacho moved up to No. 3 at 125 pounds in the latest InterMat Individual Rankings (Nov. 14).
The Wolfpack won nine of 10 bouts in both dual match wins on the weekend.
