CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech sophomore guard Kara Dunn has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while NC State guard Zoe Brooks earned Rookie of the Week honors. It is the first career conference weekly award for both players.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Dunn averaged a team-high 25.0 points per game last week, as Georgia Tech earned victories over Mercer (73-60) and Georgia State (94-70). The Dallas, Georgia, native capped off her week with a game-high 39 points in the Yellow Jackets’ win over Georgia State, the most points scored by an ACC player this season and fourth in program history. The sophomore finished 14-for-18 (77.8 percent) from the field, highlighted by a 4-for-5 mark from 3-point range.
Brooks recorded the first triple-double by an ACC player this season and first since Notre Dame’s Olivia Miles on December 10, 2022, as she closed Sunday’s victory over Liberty with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. The triple-double is just the second in NC State history and first since Tynesha Lewis in 2001. The Plainfield, New Jersey, native also added three steals and a pair of blocks to lead the Wolfpack to an 80-67 win over the Flames.
A nation-best seven ACC teams are in the latest Associated Press (AP) Top 25 rankings, the most of any conference all season. NC State continues to lead the league at No. 3, while Notre Dame (No. 14), Virginia Tech (No. 16) and Louisville (No. 18) earned spots in the top 20. Florida State is No. 22, Miami makes its debut at No. 24 and North Carolina is No. 25.
Thirteen games are on the schedule this week, headlined by a pair of top-25 matchups on Saturday. No. 18 Louisville heads to Hartford, Connecticut, to take on No. 17 UConn at noon on FOX, while No. 24 Miami takes on No. 10 Baylor at the Hall of Fame Series in San Antonio, Texas. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
