ACC Tabs Eight for Weekly Indoor Track & Field Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Clemson’s Cameron Rose was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Georgia Tech’s Lydia Troupe and Clemson’s Ken’Naria Gadson split the honor for the women.

The conference’s field athlete honors were also split on the women’s side with Clemson’s Shantae Foreman and Georgia Tech’s Shanty Papakosta each earning a share of the honor. For the men, Clemson’s Daniel Cope earned the weekly award after a strong showing in the weight throw.

Clemson took home both ACC Rookie of the Week honors with Blaik Slavinski and Kendra Dye winning for the men and women, respectively.

It is the first weekly honor of the 2023-24 indoor track & field season for all eight ACC student-athletes.
 
ACC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Cameron Rose, Sr., Clemson, Harrisburg, N.C.
Rose had an impressive run at the Clemson Opener as the Tiger recorded multiple personal bests and secured a first-place finish. In the 60 meter (prelims), the senior from Harrisburg, North Carolina, ran a 6.69 which marked a personal best. Later, in the 300 meter run, Rose was the first to cross the line as he finished the event with a time of 32.61 which was also personal best for the senior. 
 
ACC Women’s Co-Track Athletes of the Week
Lydia Troupe, Gr., Georgia Tech, Kennesaw, Ga.
At the Clemson Opener, Troupe competed in the 400m race, completing the race with a first-place time of 55.18 seconds. The 400m time also marks a personal-best time for the graduate student from Kennesaw, Georgia. 
 
Ken’Naria Gadson, Sr., Clemson, Fort Myers, Fla.
Gadson secured a first-place overall finish at the Clemson Opener in the 600 meter run as she finished the event with a time of 1:29.05. The senior from Fort Myers, Florida, also recorded a personal-best in the 300 meter run as she ran a 38.52.
 
ACC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Daniel Cope, Jr., Clemson, Westmoreland, Jamaica
After throwing a mark of 21.31 in the weight throw at the Clemson Opener, Cope secured a first-place finish in the event. The mark from the Westmoreland, Jamaica, native also currently ranks fourth in the nation for the weight throw. 
 
ACC Women’s Co-Field Athletes of the Week
Shanty Papakosta, Jr., Georgia Tech, Athens, Greece
Papakosta finished first in the Women's high jump at the Clemson Opener with a mark of 1.83 meters (6-0). This is the third consecutive year that Papakosta has had a first-place finish in the Women's high jump at the Clemson Opener. 
 
Shantae Foreman, Jr., Clemson, Kingston, Jamaica
At the Clemson Opener, Foreman secured a first-place finish in the triple jump as she lept 13.08 meters. Not only did she win the event, Foreman entered the Tigers’ top-10 list for her performance as she secured the No. 8 spot, all-time at Clemson. 
 
ACC Men’s Rookie of the Week
Blaik Slavinski, Fr., Clemson, Point Pleasant Boro, N.J.
In his first-ever meet as a Tiger, Slavinski shined as the freshman set a Clemson record in the men's 1000 meter, clocking a time of 2:29.52. The freshman’s 1000 meter time clocks as the fastest in the world this year.
 
ACC Women’s Rookie of the Week
Kendra Dye, Fr., Clemson, Cleveland, Ga.
Dye started her collegiate career at the Clemson Opener this past weekend with a strong showing in the weight throw. Earning a mark of 17.41, Dye secured a second-place finish and moved into Clemson's top-10 list with the new No. 10 slot.
