CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke sophomore center Kyle Filipowski earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, while Georgia Tech forward Baye Ndongo was selected ACC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
Filipowski totaled 28 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and three blocks in the Blue Devils’ 89-68 victory over Hofstra last Tuesday. No Division I men's college basketball player had amassed at least 28 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and three blocks in a game dating back to the 2010-11 season (Sports Reference). The native of Westtown, New York, shot 10-of-16 from the field, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.
A native of Mboro, Senegal, Ndongo recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 19 rebounds in the Yellow Jackets' 82-81 overtime win over Penn State on Saturday at Madison Square Garden. He recorded the most rebounds in a game by a Yellow Jacket since Moses Wright against Georgia State in 2020. It also tied for the most rebounds ever by a Tech freshman and the second most by any ACC player this season. Ndongo was 5-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 at the free-throw line.
