CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior guard RJ Davis and Virginia Tech senior center Lynn Kidd shared Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, while Georgia Tech forward Baye Ndongo was selected ACC Rookie of the Week for the third time in the last four weeks.
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
Davis scored a game-high 23 points with a game-high five assists, three steals and no turnovers in North Carolina's 81-69 win over seventh-ranked and previously undefeated Oklahoma. The native of White Plains, New York, scored 23 or more points for the seventh straight game (longest streak by a Tar Heel since 2008). It was his seventh career game with 20 points and five assists and the first time he had 20 and 5 with no turnovers. Davis tied his season high with five three-pointers. He scored 13 of his 23 points in the second half when he made three three-pointers, none bigger than the one he made with 3:01 to play after the Sooners went on a 17-7 run to close within five of the Tar Heel lead.
Kidd exploded for a career-high 31 points on 14-for-15 shooting and 11 rebounds to power Virginia Tech past American, 77-55. The native of Gainesville, Florida, hit his first nine shots of the game, finishing with 14 field goals made – the most by an ACC player in a single game this season. Kidd's 14 buckets were the most by a Hokie in over 20 years. He became one of only four players in program history to record at least 31 points, at least 14 field goals made and at least 11 rebounds. His hot-shooting performance keyed the Hokies to a 64 percent clip, the highest of the Mike Young era and program’s highest since 2017. He also became the only Division I men's basketball player this season to record a line of at least 31 points, 14 field goals made and 11 rebounds against a Division I opponent.
A native of Mboro, Senegal, Ndongo led Georgia Tech to a runner-up finish at the Diamond Head Classic, averaging 18.0 points and 9.3 rebounds over three games while earning a spot on the all-tournament team. He hit 23-of-26 shots from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free throw line, adding three blocks and two steals. Eleven of his 28 rebounds came on the offensive end. Ndongo scored 12 points, hitting all six of his field goal tries, with eight rebounds to help Tech defeat Massachusetts, 73-70, in the quarterfinals. He recorded his second double-double of the season in Tech's 73-68 semifinal win over host Hawai'i, tallying 22 points (10-12 FG) with 12 rebounds. In the championship game against Nevada, he added 20 points (7-8 FG) and eight boards.
