Clemson’s Hall, GT’s Ndongo Claim ACC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Clemson senior center PJ Hall notched Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week honors, while Georgia Tech forward Baye Ndongo was selected ACC Rookie of the Week.

ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.

A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Hall averaged 21.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 blocks and 2.0 steals in road wins over No. 23 Alabama and Pitt. He shot 60.0% (15-25) from the field, 54.5% (6-11) from behind the arc and 70% (7-10) at the charity stripe. He recorded a pair of 20-point outings last week and has now scored in double-figures 18-straight games dating back to last season. Hall finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds against Pitt, his second double-double of the season and eighth of his career. He also totaled 21 points and eight rebounds in a win at No. 23 Alabama on Tuesday in just 21 minutes. He tied a career high with three steals at Pitt and set a season high with four blocked shots against Alabama.

Ndongo’s performance at both ends of the floor was key in Georgia Tech toppling No. 7 Duke, 72-68, Saturday. He scored 21 points, hitting 9-of-11 from the floor, grabbed five rebounds and blocked four shots against the Blue Devils. A native of Mboro, Senegal, Ndongo scored Tech’s last two baskets and prevented a Duke score in the final seconds. He tied the game at 68-68 on a layup, stole the ball from Mark Mitchell on Duke’s next possession, then slammed home the go-ahead points off an assist from another freshman, Naithan George, giving the Jackets a 70-68 lead. Earlier in the week, Ndongo also scored two points, grabbed six rebounds, recorded three assists, two steals and a block on Tuesday as Georgia Tech downed No. 21 Mississippi State, 67-59.

Five ACC teams are ranked nationally this week. North Carolina (9), Miami (15), Duke (22) and Clemson (24) are ranked in the Associated Press poll, and UNC (10), Miami (15), Clemson (20), Duke (21) and Virginia (23) earned top-25 standing in the USA Today Coaches poll.
