CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame swept the gold medals Saturday in the individual competition during an impressive performance at the 2023 ACC Fencing Championships, which were held at Boston College's Margot Connell Recreation Center in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
The Fighting Irish claimed 11 of the 18 medals, while Duke notched four, Boston College earned a pair and North Carolina won one.
The team competition will be held Sunday, with the women beginning at 8 a.m. and the men starting at 12:15 p.m. ACC Network Extra will have live coverage of the team championships.
The Fighting Irish women took six of the nine podium spots, including a sweep in sabre, while winning the gold in all three events. Kara Linder notched the sabre championship with a 15-9 win over teammate Jadeyn Williams. Reigning national champion Kaylin Sin Yan Hsieh won the epee crown, topping Duke’s Chloe Beittel, 15-5, in the title match. Nicole Pustilnik then claimed the foil championship following a 15-13 victory over Duke’s Christina Ferrari.
Notre Dame claimed five of the nine men’s medals. Luke Linder joined his sister, Kara, as a 2023 ACC Champion as he notched the men’s sabre championship, knocking off Duke’s Terence Lee, 15-5. Mauran Osman-Touson defeated teammate Nick Candela, 15-11, to win the epee crown. Philip Dority finished off the Notre Dame gold medal sweep by downing Boston College’s Brian Wang, 15-10, in the foil final.
