GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia Tech senior center Elizabeth Kitley has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Notre Dame guard KK Bransford earned Rookie of the Week honors. Kitley earned her fourth weekly honor of the season, while Bransford claimed her first Rookie of the Week award.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Kitley averaged 25.0 points and 10.5 rebounds to lead Virginia Tech to road wins at No. 22 North Carolina and Georgia Tech last week, as the Hokies enter the postseason on an eight-game winning streak. The Summerfield, North Carolina, native shot 64.7 percent (23-for-34) from the field, including a game-winning buzzer beater to fend off the Tar Heels, 61-59. She closed the game in Chapel Hill with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds, as Virginia Tech rallied from a three-point third-quarter deficit to earn the win. In the win over Georgia Tech, Kitley tallied another game-high with 29 points and 11 boards, as the Hokies wrapped their best regular season in program history at 24-4.
Bransford averaged 12.0 points per contest in a pair of key conference victories over Georgia Tech and Louisville, which sealed the outright ACC regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in this week’s Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament. After the Cincinnati, Ohio, native scored 10 points on 5-of-7 from the field in Thursday’s win over Georgia Tech, she recorded 14 key points in the narrow road victory at Louisville on Sunday.
