ACC Unveils Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke junior guard Jeremy Roach and Miami junior guard Nijel Pack shared Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, while Duke center Dereck Lively II was selected as the ACC Rookie of the Week.

ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.

A native of Leesburg, Virginia, Roach averaged 20.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in wins over Wake Forest and North Carolina. He posted consecutive 20-point games for the first time in his career, with 21 against the Demon Deacons and 20 against the Tar Heels. His 21 points versus Wake were one shy of his career high, coming on 9-for-16 shooting, including 2-for-3 from 3-point range. Roach set the tone offensively in the win over North Carolina on Saturday, scoring Duke’s first five points and sealing the win by scoring the Blue Devils’ final four points and eight of the team’s final 10. He played all 40 minutes in the UNC win and 37 minutes in the Wake victory. Roach also was a key part of Duke’s defensive effort in holding the Tar Heels to a season-low 57 points.

Pack averaged 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in wins over Virginia Tech and No. 20 Clemson. The native of Indianapolis, Indiana, totaled 17 points in the home victory against Virginia Tech and 20 points, four rebounds and three steals in the road win over the league-leading Tigers. Pack scored all 17 of his points against Virginia Tech in a span of just 5:08 in the second half during which he went 6-for-6 from the floor, including 5-for-5 from 3-point range, and tallied 17 of the Hurricanes’ 19 points as Miami went from down by three with less than eight minutes to go to up eight with less than three minutes to play.  He led all scorers with 20 points in the top-20 road win at Clemson, including 14 in the second half, and iced the game with four free throws in the final five seconds.

Lively averaged 10.0 rebounds, 6.0 blocks and 5.5 points per game in the Blue Devils’ home wins over Wake Forest and North Carolina as he continued to emerge as a force inside. The Philadelphia native scored seven points with six boards and four blocks in the Tuesday win over Wake, hitting 2-for-3 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. In his Duke-UNC debut on Saturday, he proved to be the difference as his eight blocks were a career high and the Duke record in the rivalry, while his 14 rebounds also marked a career high. Lively was a key part of Duke’s defensive effort in holding the Tar Heels to a season-low 57 points and limiting Armando Bacot to just 1-for-4 shooting and three rebounds in the second half. His 14th rebound was an offensive board and put-back slam with 1:35 remaining that broke a 57-57 tie and put Duke ahead for good.
