GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Miami first baseman CJ Kayfus has been selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week for March 20, while Boston College’s Chris Flynn earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors.
ACC baseball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
Kayfus led the Hurricanes to a 4-0 week, highlighted by a sweep of No. 17 Virginia Tech. Kayfus batted .750 (12-for-16) with three home runs, eight RBI and a 2.137 OPS. Kayfus also scored seven runs, walked four times and stole three bases.
Against the 17th-ranked Hokies, Kayfus totaled 10 hits, three homers and plated eight runs. In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, the Wellington, Florida, native blasted one of seven Hurricanes’ home runs, the fourth-most in a single game in program history. During the nightcap, Kayfus punctuated his standout week with his first career multi-homer performance and a career-high five RBI, spearheading Miami’s 12-9 comeback win to secure the sweep.
Flynn tossed a BC career-high seven innings in a 4-2 win at No. 21 Florida State to even the series on Saturday night. The Naugatuck, Connecticut grad student struck out nine batters with just one walk and limited the Seminoles to two runs (one earned) on four hits.
The righthander worked around a leadoff single in the sixth inning by striking out the middle of the FSU order consecutively while improving to 5-0 with a 0.91 ERA this season through five starts.
