GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia junior attackman Connor Shellenberger earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, while his teammate, junior defenseman Cole Kastner, picked up Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Shellenberger led the Cavaliers with seven points on two goals and five assists in then-No. 3 UVa’s 15-10 triumph at No. 1 Notre Dame on Saturday. The Cavaliers’ win broke Notre Dame’s 12-game win streak – the nation’s longest – with the Irish’s last loss coming at UVa in 2022. Shellenberger’s five assists are the most by a Notre Dame opponent in Arlotta Stadium history. His five assists are also the most in an ACC game this season. It marked the third time this season the Charlottesville, Virginia, native has dished out at least five assists in a game.
 
Kastner led the Cavaliers’ defense in their win at Notre Dame. The Palo Alto, California, native helped hold Notre Dame attackman Pat Kavanagh, who entered Saturday’s game fifth in the nation in points per game, to just two goals and two assists. Notre Dame’s 10 goals are a season low and its lowest goal total in a single game since UVa’s 12-8 win over the Irish last season.
 
Four ACC programs are ranked in the USILA top 20 this week, with Virginia reclaiming the No. 1 position, followed by Notre Dame (3), Duke (4) and North Carolina (12). The Blue Devils and Cavaliers match up at 5 p.m. Friday in Charlottesville on ESPNU in a top-five clash. Notre Dame plays at Syracuse at 4 p.m. Saturday on ACCN.
