NC State's Korstanje Leads 2023 Men's All-ACC Academic Swimming and Diving Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - All-American and NCAA Champion Nyls Korstanje has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the All-ACC Academic Team announced on Wednesday.

A recipient of the Weaver-James-Corrigan ACC postgraduate scholarship, the 20-time All-American is a two-time NCAA champion in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-free relay.

As a part of the 200-yard medley relay, he now owns the fastest time in history as the Wolfpack squad broke the NCAA record by almost half a second while setting a meet, ACC, U.S. Open, Pool and program record. Korstanje swam the fastest butterfly leg in the field, and second fastest butterfly split of all-time. He helped secure NC State's first relay national title since 2019.

In the 200-freestyle relay, Korstanje helped set a new ACC record with another All-American finish. With the swim setting the conference record in the event, the NC State men now hold the fastest time in conference history in all five relays.

The 11-time ACC Champion helped lead the Wolfpack to its third consecutive ACC Championship. Korstanje took home gold at the 2023 ACC Championship in the 200-yard freestyle relay, 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard medley relay. He also claimed a bronze medal in the 100-yard fly.

The Nijmegen, Netherlands, native earns his third selection to the All-ACC Academic Team (2019, 2022, 2023). Korstanje was named a 2020 CSCAA Scholar All-American and was the 2019 ACC Men's Freshman of the Year. He is pursuing a degree in sustainable materials and technology.

Academic requirements for selection to the team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. In addition, student-athletes must have competed in the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships and/or the NCAA Championships during the most recent season.
