GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse graduate attacker Meaghan Tyrrell was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s 2023 Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year and tops the 2023 All-ACC Academic Women’s Lacrosse Team, announced Thursday by the league office.
 
A native of Mount Sinai, New York, Tyrrell was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the fourth time. Tyrrell ranked second in the nation in points per game (5.35) and seventh in assists per game (2.60). Her 107 points ranked third nationally. Also named the 2023 ACC Attacker of the Year and a 2023 Tewaaraton finalist, Tyrrell is the first Syracuse and ninth Division I player to record 400 career points. She ranks sixth on the Division I all-time points list with 415. Tyrrell is majoring in Entrepreneurship & Emerging Enterprises.
 
Tyrrell is Syracuse’s third ACC Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, but the first since Kayla Reanor in 2016.
 
All 10 of the league’s women’s lacrosse programs are represented on the All-ACC Academic Team, which includes 17 student-athletes that earned Inside Lacrosse All-America honors this season. Each of the ACC’s five season award honorees were represented on the team – Syracuse’s Tyrrell (Attacker of the Year) and Delaney Sweitzer (Goalkeeper of the Year) and Boston College’s Belle Smith (Midfielder of the Year), Sydney Scales (Defender of the Year) and Shea Dolce (Freshman of the Year).
 
Twenty-five members of the All-ACC Academic Team also were named to the 2023 All-ACC Team, including 12 first-teamers and 13 second-teamers.
 
Duke led all schools with 24 honorees on the All-ACC Academic Team.
 
Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0-grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. In addition, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
