CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt junior forward Sarah Schupansky was selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week and North Carolina senior midfielder Sam Meza was chosen the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Aug. 21-27.
Schupansky tallied a pair of goals and an assist to help increase Pitt’s winning streak to four straight victories to open 2023. In Thursday’s 1-0 road win at Kent State, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native placed in a corner into the box and found the head of teammate Lainie Fuchs for the match’s only goal. On Sunday, the forward recorded her first brace since Aug. 31, 2022 when she knocked in two goals in the Panthers’ 5-0 victory over Bucknell. Schupansky is now tied for the conference lead with four goals on the year.
Meza played a key role in the defensive midfield that posted a pair of clean sheets against Wisconsin and No. 24 Southern California last week. In Thursday’s scoreless draw with the Badgers, the Tar Heel defense allowed just one shot for the match which came in the 61st minute. On Sunday, the shutout streak continued, as the Dallas, Texas, native and the UNC defense held the nationally-ranked Trojans to just five shots with one going on frame in the Tar Heels’ 4-0 win. North Carolina has not allowed a goal in over 256 minutes, dating back to last Sunday’s win over California.

On Sunday, ACC Network features nationally-ranked Arkansas traveling to North Carolina for a 2 p.m. kickoff. The final top-25 matchup of the week features Notre Dame at Michigan State.
