CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke senior forward Forster Ajago and Notre Dame junior forward Matthew Roou shared Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Louisville redshirt freshman goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff notched ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors in the first set of weekly honors for 2023.
A native of Navrongo, Ghana, Ajago recorded the first hat trick of his career on Sunday in Duke's 6-0 win over Furman, taking home MVP honors of the 2023 John Rennie Invitational. The forward scored his three goals via two diving headers and a penalty kick, all in just under 50 minutes of action. His opening goal was the fifth game-winner of his career.
Roou also scored the first hat trick of his career on Sunday as Notre Dame topped IUPUI, 5-0. A native of Germantown, Wisconsin, Roou tied Ajago and others for the NCAA lead in goals scored over the first week of play.
Svetanoff was stout in goal as the Cardinals scored a 1-0 win over No. 16 Tulsa on Thursday evening. Seeing his first collegiate action, the native of Crown Point, Indiana, recorded a clean sheet, making six saves.
Non-conference play continues this week with a busy slate of matches over the Labor Day weekend.
