CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville junior forward Gage Guerra was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week, while Duke freshman goalkeeper Julian Eyestone claimed ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Guerra recorded braces in each of Louisville’s matches last week, totaling four goals against No. 19 Kentucky and No. 4 Syracuse. The native of Houston, Texas, notched a pair of goals in the 4-2 win over No. 19 Kentucky on Tuesday. Guerra then scored two more times Friday at No. 4 Syracuse, including a goal in the 89th minute to help Louisville secure a 2-2 draw on the road against the reigning national champions. Guerra currently leads the ACC in goals (6) and points (12) and has scored in four consecutive matches to help Louisville to its best start in program history (4-0-1).
Eyestone logged two more shutouts for the Blue Devils as Duke won at Princeton, 2-0, and defeated Virginia, 2-0, in the ACC opener. Through five career appearances, Eyestone now has three clean sheets, tied for most in the ACC and sixth-best in the country. The Dallas, Texas, native has made a total of 13 saves so far this season with a .813 save percentage, which both rank second-most in the league.
ACC Network has a pair of men’s soccer matches on its airwaves this week, beginning with Michigan State at No. 20 Notre Dame at 8 p.m. Tuesday, followed by Virginia Tech at No. 7 Louisville at 8 p.m. Friday.
