UVa’s Annor Gyamfi, VT’s Adams Earn ACC Men’s Soccer Player of Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia freshman forward Stephen Annor Gyamfi was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Virginia Tech junior goalkeeper Timi Adams notched ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Annor scored three goals in two matches last week. The native of Accra, Ghana, scored Virginia’s goal Tuesday in a 1-1 draw at No. 9 James Madison. Annor's scoring was the difference in Virginia's ACC home opener on Saturday, as the freshman recorded a brace for the first time in his collegiate career to power Virginia to a 3-1 victory over NC State. Annor is tied for the third-most goals (4) among all ACC players this season.

Adams recorded a career-high four saves in his third career start, as Virginia Tech won at No. 5 Louisville, 2-1, on Friday night. A native of Atlanta, Adams made a clutch save in the final minute of the game and tallied three of his saves in the second half. The Hokies held the ACC’s leading scorer, Gage Guerra, off the scoresheet and kept the Cardinals scoreless in the final 84 minutes of the contest. The Cardinals had scored multiple goals in four consecutive games, including six in their last two matches versus No. 19 Kentucky and No. 4 Syracuse.

ACC Network features a men’s soccer doubleheader on Friday evening, with Clemson at Wake Forest at 6 p.m. and Virginia at Notre Dame at 8 p.m. ACCN also has the Denver at Pitt clash at 7 p.m. Monday.
