CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina redshirt-sophomore midfielder/forward Ally Sentnor was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Clemson junior defender Mackenzie Duff was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 18-24.
Sentnor scored twice and handed out an assist in last week’s matches against nationally ranked Virginia and Florida State. The Hanson, Massachusetts, native began the week by scoring the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory at No. 22 UVA on Thursday, as her 55th-minute tally was the difference in a key league victory. On Sunday, Sentnor scored in the 42nd minute and assisted on a late go-ahead goal in the 86th minute in the Tar Heels’ 3-3 draw with No. 3 FSU. The redshirt sophomore is now tied for the team lead in goals with four.
Duff anchored a Clemson backline that posted a pair of clean sheets and allowed just five shots over two matches for the week. In the team’s first shutout on Thursday, Duff and the Tiger defense did not allow a shot on goal until the 67th minute, as they blanked Miami, 5-0. On Sunday, the St. Louis, Missouri, native led a backline that held Boston College without a shot on goal for the match and recorded a brace off corner kicks in Clemson’s 2-0 road victory.
Conference play continues Friday with a pair of matchups on ACC Network Extra, as Miami heads to Florida State and Wake Forest travels to Virginia Tech. Both contests kick off at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, four matches are on the docket, headlined by an in-state rivalry between North Carolina and NC State. Saturday’s schedule concludes with Notre Dame hosting Louisville, Pitt welcoming Boston College and Clemson taking on Syracuse. All matches can be found on ACC Network Extra at 7 p.m. Sunday’s slate features Duke visiting Virginia for a key conference contest at noon on ACC Network.
