CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia Tech junior guard Sean Pedulla notched Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, while Notre Dame guard Braeden Shrewsberry was selected ACC Rookie of the Week.
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
Pedulla averaged a conference-best 32.5 points per game last week in the Hokies’ games against No. 21 Clemson and Miami. The native of Edmond, Oklahoma, twice set career highs in points, including 32 in Tech's first ranked win of the season, 87-72, over Clemson on Wednesday and 33 on Saturday against Miami. Pedulla added seven assists and a career-high four steals against the Tigers. Against Miami, Pedulla recorded his second career double-double behind career bests in points (33) and rebounds (10), becoming the second Tech men's basketball player to record back-to-back 30-point outings since 2004. He was 22-for-39 from the field (56 percent) for the week, including 11-for-23 from 3-point range (48 percent), and also went 10-for-10 from the charity stripe. Pedulla’s 33 points against Miami is tied for the most in a game by an ACC player this season.
Shrewsberry averaged 16.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in Notre Dame’s games against Georgia Tech and Florida State last week. He scored a season-high 25 points on Tuesday against Georgia Tech to lift the Fighting Irish to an overtime victory on the road. Shrewsberry made a season-high five 3-pointers and went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. He recorded eight points and five rebounds on Saturday at home against FSU.
