ACC Announces Week Three Indoor Track & Field Honorees

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.org) – Six student-athletes from five different institutions have been honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference’s first indoor track & field performers of the week in 2024. The honorees shined not only throughout the conference but also established themselves near the top of NCAA qualifying lists in their respective events.
 
Florida State led the way with Suus Altorf winning Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Andre Kombacher was named Men’s Indoor Freshman of the Week. Clemson, Miami, Louisville, and Virginia Tech also saw a student-athlete garner a weekly honor.
 
All six student-athletes earned their first weekly honor of the 2023-24 indoor season.
 
ACC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Tarees Rhoden, Sr., Clemson, Kingston, Jamaica
In the 600-meter of the Clemson Invitational, Rhoden broke the Clemson program record with a time of 1:16.10. A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Rhoden also ran the final leg of the 4 x 400m relay for the Tigers, who broke the tape in 3:07.59, marking the second-fastest time in the nation thus far this season.
 
ACC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Suus Altorf, R-Fr., Florida State, Hillegom, Netherlands
Altorf had no problem breezing past the competition in the one-mile run of the Jimmy Carnes Invitational. The Hillegom, Netherlands, native finished in a time a 4:42.99, which also set a new facility record. Altorf’s time sits as the second-fastest in the ACC this season.
 
ACC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Russell Robinson, Sr., Miami, Windermere, Fla.
Robinson broke his own Miami record in the triple jump at the Rod McCravy Memorial. Using a 12-step short approach, Robinson jumped 16.46m (55’1”) for a first-place finish, Rod McCravy meet record, and facility record for the triple jump. The Windermere, Florida, native also moved into second place in Hurricane history for the long jump with a mark of 7.75m, which was also good for a first-place finish. Robinson’s triple jump mark ranks second nationally while his long jump is good for seventh in the country.
 
ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Jayden Ulrich, Jr., Louisville, East Alton, Ill.
Ulrich shined in her Louisville debut at the Rod McCravy Memorial. The junior from East Alton, Illinois, made her mark on the conference as well with a 15.97m (52’4.75”) throw in the shot put - good for first place in the ACC.
 
ACC Men’s Indoor Freshman of the Week
Andre Korbmacher, Fr., Florida State, Bellingham, Wash.
Despite making his collegiate debut for Florida State over the weekend, Korbmacher has already worked his way into the record books. In the preliminary rounds of the 60m hurdles, Korbmacher set a new facility record with a time of 7.75. In the finals, the Bellingham, Washington, native broke his own record and moved into seventh place in Seminole history with a blazing 7.71 and a first-place finish. The time is tied for the third-fastest throughout the country this season.
 
ACC Women’s Indoor Freshman of the Week
Chiara Sistermann, Fr., Virginia Tech, Gräfelfing, Germany
Sistermann cleared a height of 4.12m in the pole vault at the Virginia Tech Invitational. The Gräfeling, Germany, native’s mark ranks eighth nationally among freshmen and is the best in the ACC. Her mark is tied with teammate Journey Gurley for second in the ACC overall.
