CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse sophomore guard Quadir Copeland claimed Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, while Notre Dame guard Markus Burton was named ACC Rookie of the Week.
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
Copeland keyed Syracuse’s come-from-behind win over Pitt, scoring a career-high 22 points in the Orange’s 81-73 victory on Saturday. Sixteen of his 22 points came in the second half as the Orange rallied from an 11-point deficit. With the game tied at 61 with five minutes remaining, Copeland scored five points in Syracuse’s 13-2 run to put the game away. The native of Philadelphia totaled nine rebounds, four assists and three steals in 22 minutes off the bench. He was 4-of-8 from the field and hit 13 of his 15 free-throw attempts.
Burton racked up 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and tallied a career-high eight assists in 33 minutes as Notre Dame rolled to a 76-54 victory over Virginia on Saturday afternoon. It marked the Fighting Irish’s largest margin of victory in program history against the Cavaliers. The native of Mishawaka, Indiana, was 2-of-3 from behind the arc and recorded three rebounds. He had a pivotal and-one in the second half to help ice up the game.
