CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Clemson senior forward Ousmane Sylla was named the winner of the 2023 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy on Friday at the MAC’s annual banquet.
Sylla is the 21st ACC men's soccer player to win the Hermann Trophy and the first since Clemson’s Robbie Robinson in 2019. He is the fourth player in Clemson program history to win the award. Wake Forest senior defender Garrison Tubbs also was one of the three finalists for the 2023 Hermann Trophy.
Sylla scored 13 goals, including five game winners, and also recorded 10 assists in leading Clemson to its second national championship in the last three seasons. He netted the lone goal for the Tigers in the ACC Championship match against North Carolina.
A native of Dakar, Senegal, Sylla was a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America selection as well as a First-Team All-ACC honoree. He led the Tigers in goals, assists and points and was named the MVP for both the ACC Championship and the NCAA College Cup.
In the 2023 MLS Super Draft, Sylla was selected in the second round by the Houston Dynamo.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, a 10-pound crystal soccer ball, is awarded to the United Soccer Coaches National Players of the Year in NCAA Division I men’s and women’s soccer based on voting conducted by member coaches.
