CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame freshman forward Ellie Hodsden was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Miami sophomore defender Emilie McCartney and Fighting Irish junior midfielder Leah Klenke were named ACC Co-Defensive Players of the Week for matches played from October 14-20.
Hodsden scored four goals last week, headlined by just the third hat trick recorded in league matches in Notre Dame’s 5-2 victory over No. 25 California last Thursday. The Dripping Springs, Texas, native became the first Fighting Irish player since Olivia Wingate on September 1, 2022, to post a hat trick, as the three-goal effort was her second multi-goal effort of her collegiate career. After she tallied her first goal in the 36th minute, Hodsden scored back-to-back goals in the 63rd and 71st minute to put the match away. On Sunday, the striker added a late insurance goal in the 68th minute to give Notre Dame a 3-0 win over No. 6 Stanford.
McCartney played the full 90 minutes along the backline in Miami’s scoreless draw with Pitt last Thursday. The McKinney, Texas, native helped hold the Panthers without a shot on goal for the match, despite Pitt entering the week averaging 24.2 shots and 2.64 goals per match. The clean sheet marked Miami’s fourth shutout of the season.
Klenke controlled the defensive midfield in a pair of ranked wins over No. 25 California and No. 6 Stanford last week. After the Golden Bears equalized at 2-2 in the 52nd minute, the Houston, Texas, native led a backline that allowed just two shots for the remainder of the match, none in the final 30 minutes, and fueled a Notre Dame comeback that saw three Irish goals to close out the match. On Sunday, the Notre Dame defense allowed just three shots on goal in its 3-0 shutout win over the Cardinal, as Klenke scored from the penalty spot in the 66th minute.
A total of 11 matches are on the schedule, as the regular season continues to dwindle down, with the bracket for the 2024 Ally ACC Women’s Soccer Championship scheduled to be announced on Thursday, October 31. This week’s schedule is highlighted by a potential No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown on Sunday, October 27, when Duke heads to Wake Forest for a 6 p.m. ET kickoff on ACC Network Extra.
