ACC Announces Volleyball Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - North Carolina senior outside hitter Mabrey Shaffmaster has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while Georgia Tech junior libero Sofia Velez was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for matches played October 21-27. Additionally, Pitt senior Rachel Fairbanks and Stanford senior Kami Miner have been named the ACC Co-Setters of the Week, while Georgia Tech middle blocker Logan Wiley was tabbed the ACC Freshman of the Week.

Last week, Shaffmaster helped lead the No. 25 Tar Heels to a 2-0 week that included an upset of No. 19 Florida State. The New Castle, Indiana native had 42 kills and seven aces, putting her at No. 10 in all-time in kills (1, 377) and No. 6 all-time aces (134) in program history. Shaffmaster has 242 kills and 37 service aces on the season.

Velez averaged 4.86 digs per set last week for the Yellow Jackets in their sweep against NC State and a 3-1 win over Wake Forest. The Tulua, Colombia, native finished the week out with 24 digs, moving her total numbers to 259 digs on the season. Velez has now recorded 10 or more digs in seven consecutive matches.


Fairbanks was named the ACC Setter of the Week for a third time this season and for the second week in a row. In the 3-2 win over No. 4 Louisville and the 3-1 win over Notre Dame, Fairbanks recorded 93 assists, 18 digs, three aces and three blocks. Fairbanks now has 577 assists, 132 digs, 32 blocks and 21 assists on the season.

Miner earned her fourth Setter of the Week honor this year after averaging 12.17 assists per set last week for the Cardinal. Miner and the Stanford offense combined for a .354 hitting percentage in a pair of sweeps over in-state rival, California. She recorded 73 assists, 13 digs and three kills to help move her 2024 totals to 658 sets, 156 digs and 36 kills.

Wiley recorded 17 kills and 10 blocks for the Yellow Jackets last week to earn ACC Freshman of the Week honors. The freshman out of Alpharetta, Georgia, hit .556 in Georgia Tech’s two wins over NC State and Wake Forest. Wiley now has 32 kills and 22 total blocks on the season for the No. 19 Yellow Jackets.

Seven ACC teams are ranked inside the latest AVCA/TARFLEX Coaches Poll, headlined by No. 1 Pitt, No. 4 Louisville and No. 5 Stanford in the top five. The seven teams are tied for the most of any conference this week. Conference play continues this week beginning on Wednesday, October 30, when Notre Dame travels to No. 4 Louisville at 7 p.m. on ACCN. The rest of the conference begins the week on Friday, November 1.
