ACC Announces Weekly Women’s Soccer Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke sophomore midfielder/forward Mia Oliaro and Wake Forest senior forward Emily Murphy were selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Offensive Players of the Week and Miami redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Claireese Foley was chosen the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played September 30-October 6.

Oliaro tallied a goal and pair of assists to lead Duke to a pair of victories over No. 25 Virginia and Louisville last week. The Chapel Hill, North Carolina, native opened the week with a 48th-minute goal and later assisted on a key insurance goal, as the Blue Devils held off the Cavaliers with a 3-1 win last Thursday. On Sunday, Oliaro handed out an assist in Duke’s 3-1 home win over Louisville.

Murphy posted a goal and an assist in Wake Forest’s 4-1 win over No. 6 Florida State last Thursday, as the Demon Deacons picked up their second top-10 victory this season. The Windsor, England, native scored the match’s first goal in the 25th minute to give the home side an early 1-0 advantage. In the second half, Murphy dished out an assist in the 56th minute to help seal the victory.

Foley recorded a pair of clean sheets against Virginia Tech and Florida Atlantic last week, as she totaled 10 saves over the two matches. In Thursday’s scoreless draw with Virginia Tech, the Prosper, Texas, native grabbed a career-high seven saves to help preserve the shutout, as the Hokies were held without a goal for the first time since September 8 and only the second time this season. The redshirt-freshman capped off her week with a three-save effort in a 1-0 win over Florida Atlantic on Sunday.
